The Chapman Center for Rural Studies had it’s grand opening on Friday, January 28th, 2011. In attendance were approximately 150 supporter and friends of the Center, including Mr. Mark Chapman, the primary sponsor of the renovation of 109-112 Leasure Hall. In addition to recognizing Mr. Chapman’s contributions to the Center, Directors Bonnie Lynn-Sherow and MJ Morgan introduced our interns for the Spring 2011 semester. They also recognized our many community partners from local historical societies and libraries from Pottawatomie, Geary, Clay and Wabaunsee Counties. Finally, we noted the generous contributions of Steve and Karen Hummel to the physical renovation and Professor Zschoche dedicated the center’s new collection of Kansas reference works. Thanks are also due to People’s Grocery for providing a wonderful repast for the event.
